ASO Titer

The ASO titer test is a blood test that measures the level of antibodies to Streptolysin O, a toxic enzyme produced by the bacteria Streptococcus pyogenes. This test is typically performed to determine if a person has recently been infected with Streptococcus pyogenes, which is responsible for causing strep throat and other infections. Elevated levels of ASO antibodies may indicate a recent or current infection with Streptococcus pyogenes. A healthcare provider will interpret the results of the test and determine the appropriate course of treatment if necessary.
