ANA (Antinuclear Antibody)

The immunofluoresence assay is the gold standard method for ana testing. a negative ana test virtually rules out a diagnosis of systemic lupus erythematosus but a positive test may be indicative of a number of autoimmune connective tissue diseases such as scleroderma, rheumatoid arthritis and sjogren's syndrome

The ANA test is a blood test used to detect the presence of autoantibodies that attack the nucleus of the body's own cells.
These autoantibodies are commonly found in patients with autoimmune disorders such as SLE, rheumatoid arthritis, and scleroderma.
The test measures the level of autoantibodies present in the blood and is performed by taking a blood sample from the patient, which is then analyzed in a laboratory.
A positive ANA test result indicates the presence of autoantibodies, but further diagnostic tests and clinical evaluation are required to determine the specific autoimmune disorder.
